The NEA Small Modular Reactor Dashboard

In this publication, developed by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and referred to as a dashboard, an assessment extending beyond the technology readiness level has been conducted to evaluate the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development process across six key areas. These areas include preparation for licensing, site, financing, supply chain, engagement with official and non-governmental organizations, and fuel. It defined the criteria in each evaluation area as objective criteria reflecting the significant progress towards initial implementation and commercialization. The document was crafted through consultations with SMR designers, utilizing information derived from verifiable sources.

In addition to outlining the criteria and assessments mentioned above, this publication delves into the role, potential benefits, and characteristics of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in energy policies, exploring their diverse applications. Encompassing 21 distinct SMR technologies, the document provides comprehensive evaluations and scores across the aforementioned criteria.
